Zircon (ZrSiO₄) is a zirconium silicate mineral commonly found in igneous and metamorphic rocks as well as sedimentary deposits. It is highly resistant to weathering, making it useful in geological studies and radiometric dating due to its ability to retain radioactive elements over long periods. Zircon crystals are often small and can occur in various colors, including colorless, yellow, red, green, blue, purple, and brown. Some zircons are cut as gemstones due to their brilliance.
