Fakaofo
Remote atoll in the northwestern part of Tuvalu.
Fakaofo is a remote atoll situated in the northwestern part of the Tuvalu archipelago. Comprising reef and sandcays, it lacks permanent residents since 1968 when its inhabitants relocated to Funafuti due to freshwater scarcity. Historically significant, it was a major settlement before the unification of the Tuvalu islands.
