Vanuatu is an island nation in the South Pacific Ocean, comprising approximately 83 islands covering around 1,750 km (1,090 mi). It is renowned for its volcanic landscapes, rich cultural diversity with numerous indigenous languages spoken across the islands, and several active volcanoes. The country was formerly known as New Hebrides and achieved independence from France and the United Kingdom in 1980.
