Qur'an
The Quran is the central religious text of Islam, believed by Muslims to be the verbatim word of God (Allah), revealed progressively over 23 years through the angel Gabriel to the Prophet Muhammad. It is composed of 114 chapters known as surahs, arranged roughly by length rather than chronological order of revelation. The Quran contains approximately 6,236 verses (ayat) and serves as the foundation of Islamic theology, law, ethics, and spiritual guidance.
