Conflict between the United States and Mexico (1846–1848).

A conflict (1846–1848) between the United States and Mexico. Triggered by territorial disputes—primarily over Texas—and American expansionist desires, it resulted in a decisive U.S. victory. The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo ceded vast territories to the US including California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and parts of Colorado and Wyoming.
