The tabla is a pair of Indian percussion instruments consisting of a small, tunable drum (the 'dayan') and a larger, bass drum (the 'bayan'). Played widely in Hindustani classical music and other Indian genres, the tabla produces a wide range of tones and rhythms through complex hand techniques.
