Roman Britain refers to the period of British history during which Roman influence dominated southern Great Britain following its conquest by the Roman Empire in AD 43 under Emperor Claudius. the region remained part of the Empire until the early fifth century when Roman forces withdrew due to increasing pressure from barbarian invasions elsewhere in Europe. during this time, Roman Britain saw significant cultural, economic, and infrastructural developments including the construction of roads, towns, forts, and villas.
