Plato (c. 428/427 – c. 348/347 BC) was a Greek philosopher born in Athens. A student of Socrates and teacher of Aristotle, he founded the Academy, one of the first institutions of higher learning in the Western world. His philosophical works, primarily written as dialogues, explored topics including ethics, metaphysics, epistemology, and politics, profoundly influencing Western thought.
