Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) was a German composer and pianist. A pivotal figure in the transition between the Classical and Romantic eras of music, he is known for works such as the Fifth Symphony, Moonlight Sonata, and Für Elise. Despite facing progressive hearing loss that eventually led to deafness, Beethoven continued composing and remains one of history’s most influential musicians.
