Lake Kivu is one of the African Great Lakes, located on the border between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is part of the East African Rift Valley system and lies at an elevation of approximately 1,460 meters above sea level. The lake is known for its unique geology and the presence of methane gas trapped beneath its waters.
