HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure) is an internet communication protocol that implements HTTP over TLS or SSL. It provides secure communication between a web browser and a server, encrypting data transmitted to prevent eavesdropping and tampering. Commonly indicated by a padlock icon in the browser's address bar.
