Cartago

An ancient city-state located in North Africa, near modern Tunis. Founded around 814 BC by Phoenician settlers from the city of Qart-ḥadašt, Carthage became a major trading empire that dominated the western Mediterranean for centuries before its destruction by Rome during the Punic Wars.
