The Boer War
Second Anglo-Boer War
South African War
The Second Boer War (1899-1902) was a conflict between the British Empire and two independent Boer republics – the South African Republic (Transvaal) and the Orange Free State. Fueled by tensions over land, resources (particularly gold), and political rights for Uitlanders (foreigners), the war saw initial Boer successes followed by British scorched-earth tactics and ultimately, British victory. The conflict resulted in the annexation of the Boer republics into the British Empire and had lasting impacts on South Africa’s development.
