In Māori mythology, Teaoraereke is a shapeshifting taniwha (water monster) said to inhabit Lake Rotoiti in the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand. Known for its ability to transform into a beautiful young woman, it is associated with seduction and the dangers of the lake.
