Taliban

The Taliban is a political and militant group that emerged in Afghanistan in the 1990s, known for enforcing a strict interpretation of Islamic law. It controlled most of Afghanistan from 1996 until 2001, when it was ousted by a U.S.-led invasion following the September 11 attacks. The group regained control of Afghanistan in August 2021 after the withdrawal of U.S. and NATO forces.
