Monte Vesuvio
Mount Vesuvius is a stratovolcano located on the Gulf of Naples in Italy, near the ancient Roman city of Pompeii. It is one of the most famous volcanoes in the world due to its catastrophic eruption in 79 AD, which buried Pompeii and Herculaneum under layers of ash and pumice. The volcano remains active today, with its last major eruption occurring in 1944.
