Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) was an Italian polymath of the High Renaissance. Renowned as a painter, sculptor, architect, scientist, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist, and writer, he is considered one of the greatest minds in history. His works include the paintings *Mona Lisa* and *The Last Supper*, as well as numerous scientific drawings and inventions.

Leonardo da Vinci was born in Vinci, Italy, and his name means 'from the valley of Vinci'.
