Iodine
Iodine is a halogen element, atomic number 53. It exists as a solid at room temperature and has a distinctive violet color when vaporized, although it is typically dark gray or black in its solid form. Essential for thyroid hormone production in humans, iodine's compounds are used as antiseptics and in photography.
