Holetown
First English settlement on Barbados.
Holtown
Holetown, located on Barbados’s west coast, is considered the island’s first English settlement. Established in 1627 by Sir John Compton, it marks the site of a failed early settlement and later developed into a vital port for shipping sugar and other goods. Today, it's a popular tourist destination known for its beaches, historic sites like the 1654 poll tax record (a significant step toward representative government), and vibrant atmosphere.
