A shrubland biome found primarily in Mediterranean climates characterized by hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. Chaparral vegetation is typically dominated by drought-resistant shrubs and small trees with evergreen foliage. Common examples exist in California, the Mediterranean Basin, Chile, South Africa, and Australia.
