Cesium

Alkali metal used in atomic clocks.

caesium

Cesium (Cs) is an alkali metal characterized by its softness and silvery-gold appearance. It exhibits extreme reactivity with water and air, possessing a low melting point of approximately 29 °C. Cesium finds applications in atomic clocks due to its precise frequency emissions, photoelectric cells leveraging its low work function, and vacuum tubes where it functions as a getter to eliminate residual gases.
