Akbar I (1542-1605), also known as Akbar the Great, was the third Mughal emperor of India. He reigned from 1556 to 1605 and is renowned for expanding the Mughal empire significantly through military conquest and consolidating rule through administrative reforms. Notable for his religious tolerance (Din-i Ilahi) and patronage of arts and culture, Akbar fostered a period of relative peace and prosperity.
